Born on November 11, 1934, in Mount Lavinia as Rita Genevieve Fernando, Latha’s musical journey began in the church choir. Her professional career took flight in 1946 when she performed on Radio Ceylon at the tender age of 12.
Her entry into the film industry in 1953 with the movie Eda Rae revolutionized playback singing. For decades, she was the "Queen of Song" (Gee Rajiniya), providing the soul-stirring vocals for almost every leading actress on the silver screen.
